Portrait of Violeta de Ginés at age 93

A landmark work in Quim Hereu’s creative journey, this piece does not yet depict eternal life through the time-snails of eternal youth, but instead through a second skin. This seemingly classical portrait hides a profoundly estrambòtic narrative.
Violeta Ginés is not just any young woman—she is a 93-year-old who made a pact with time and death: at the final moment, death granted her more time, a kind of extension, in exchange for something unknown.
Death gave her a new skin, allowing her to relive youth and to continue embracing life’s pleasures with intensity.Inspired by the Faust myth, but from a female and contemporary perspective, Violeta seeks neither knowledge nor power, but life, beauty, and desire. The two figures at her sides—a shrouded skull and a young woman—represent the forces that surround her: life and death, around which everything revolves.
