Sant Narcís and the flies
This artwork offers an estrambòtic reinterpretation of the Girona legend of Saint Narcís and his famous flies.Set in an imaginary world that plays with the Cathedral of Girona, the scene becomes a surreal spectacle: a gigantic saint summons the flies as a protective army, while two floating beings celebrate the miracle inside a blue farmer’s egg shell.
According to tradition, when French troops desecrated the saint’s tomb, thousands of flies emerged and attacked the invaders until they fled. Here, the flies—huge and almost mythological—are not just vengeful insects, but emissaries of a strange, higher order. The water domes, impossible proportions, and decontextualized elements all signal to the viewer that this is not a real world.
