A human being deeply tormented by their past — by their former life as a broccoli smuggler.
Drawing from the Broquilisme series.
This is the portrait of a 19th-century woman who suffered—or perhaps had been blessed—with a strange condition known as broquilism. Unlike others afflicted by this peculiar ailment, she rejected her fate. This denial poisoned her from within, to the point where the elements sprouting from her head, usually white, turned black, reflecting the darkness that had taken hold of her soul.
Legend has it that she even trafficked in children who also suffered from broquilism, exploiting the popular belief that consuming a strand of their hair could grant superpowers. They say that, in time, she tried to redeem herself… but guilt never let her go.
