The catrinas and you

This artwork symbolizes the three stages of human life: childhood, adulthood, and old age.
Quim Hereu has a very close relationship with Mexico, and through the representation of Mexican catrinas—a girl, a woman, and an elderly lady—he evokes the eternal cycle of life and death.
Each figure, with a face carefully painted like a skull, locks eyes with the viewer, reminding us that death is always present and that we must live each day to the fullest. The catrinas emerge from a fantastical setting inspired by the crystal-clear waters of Isla Mujeres.
Surrounded by fish, candles, and skulls, these figures seem to float between the earthly and the spiritual worlds.
